A War on Suffering

Image
This is kind of an ironic concept, since war in and of itself usually causes suffering. So declaring a war on suffering is almost as ironic and paradoxical as declaring a war on war.  However, we live in America, and no one pays attention to any social or cultural ill unless you declare war on it. A relic of our society's militant history and status as a superpower. Hell, most of our idioms, metaphors, and figures of speech have either something to do with sports, sex, or war.  Prove me wrong. "War on drugs." "War on poverty." "War on crime." "War on terror." "War on Covid." "War on cancer." We even have the balls to declare war on abstract concepts, like terror, and we spend thousands of lives and billions upon billions of dollars fighting people acting on behalf of ideologies and ideas based on hate and fear and conquest only to constantly be met with failure and have those ideas recycle themselves in new hosts and foll...

Apocatastasis

Image
The restoration of all things. A very enticing and optimistic theological concept. Probably more so than any other Christian based concept I've encountered.  In short, apocatastasis is the idea that God loves ALL of His creation and His subjects so much that at some point He is going to restore it back to a state of grace, wholeness, and perfection. He sees His creation as too valuable to destroy and knows there is more glory in restoring it than annihilating it.  Permanent condemnation is unacceptable because of how valuable all consciousness is, being a condensed focal point where the universe can experience itself through and be beared host to by a conscious awareness. Since a mind bears host to existence and reality in general, regardless of the extent of knowledge of a person, within ourselves we inherit the value of the universe in our being because of our isolated awareness of it. On top of that, since we are created in God's image and likeness, we mirror the val...

As Free As The Wind

Image
There is nothing more free Than the wind as I see Few glories as great As its sweet Liberty The wind blows as it pleases This way and that You can't grasp it or see it Until it blows off your hat You can't leash it or control it You can't chain it or enslave it You can't build it or break it You can only at times make it Its freedom is greater Than the birds who swim through it Its power is greater Than the trees who whistle in it Since you can't cage it You can't master it Its liberty is undeprivable Its freedom is guaranteed You can't put wind in a cage Or shackle it in chains Or market it in stores Or use it in wars If you want to be free Be as close to wind as you can be Unfettered, unbonded, unseen and unimpeded You can't stop what you can't see You can't chain what you can't grab You can't break a fluid You can't cage a wave If you want to be free, my dearest friend Be as close to wind as you can be

The Morality of Ideas

Image
“Beware of false prophets,   who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.   You will know them by their fruits.   Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles?   Even so,   every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.   A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor  can  a bad tree bear good fruit.   Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.  Therefore by their fruits you will know them."  -Jesus, the Gospel of Matthew. "People don't have ideas. Ideas have people."  -Carl Jung If ideas have agency, or a will of their own, then they can have moral responsibility or a moral/ethical spirit to them. Everybody who has been alive longer than a few years has probably heard someone say "that's a good idea" or "that's a bad idea." These phrases assign morals and ethics to ideas as well as gauging quality .  An idea is usually con...

One day soon, I will swim in these bottomless oceans of God and never thirst or be in want or need again.
