The Champion of the Weak

In the old comics, Superman was occasionally referred to as "the Champion of the weak," or the "Champion of the oppressed." Conceptually, he was the strongest of all superheroes, the most dominant fighting force on earth. With many strengths and few weaknesses, he was the ideal protector. The posterman of heroism.

The most important part of this title is his relentless defense of the helpless, the sick, and the disadvantaged. He knew that if you were strong, using that strength to oppress others and dominate those weaker and less fortunate than you was more cowardice than heroism. It doesn't take much strength (and no courage) to dominate or oppress the weak. Strength is required when you are challenged by other strength, and courage is required when you have to face an enemy stronger than you.

Any true hero would know that weakness isn't permanent. There is no disadvantage that can't be turned into something positive or useful, and there is no weakness that is unstrengthenable. This is knowledge that any real life hero or fictional one on "the light side of the force"😁 would be able to grasp and comprehend. Jesus understood this. He cured incurable diseases and repaired unrepairable circumstances and relationships.

Jesus understood that, with grace and patience, no sin was permanent or unredeemable, and no one had to be condemned to a life of ostracization and rejection for a correctable flaw.

The "champion of the weak" is a champion of the weak because he can see farther than 10 minutes, or two years, in front of him. Since he is aware of the impermanence of flaws (the impermanence of everything) this champion recognizes that the weak are only unequal in their weakness, but not unequal in their humanity and that intrinsic worth.

The impermanence of weakness, and the impermanence of strength, means that the value and status of a person's sanctity and fundamental rights can't be gauged by these standards because they are.......IMPERMANENT.😁

To put it simply, a champion of the weak is a champion of the weak because he knows that weakness can be fixed or utilized differently. What we haven't learned how to fix is because we haven't discovered how to yet, not because it can't be, and what weakness may be tricky to repair doesn't mean it can't be utilized benevolently for other purposes.

So be like Superman, or better yet, be like Jesus, and learn to champion the weak and oppressed instead of condemning them or exploiting them.
