Eternal Life
"but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life."
John 4:14
When I read scriptures referring to eternal life in the bible, I am used to picturing an image of just standing around God's throne singing praises with the angels. Many people I know imagine being reunited with their family members and friends.
Though there most likely is a lot of truth to these things, I relate to the concept of eternal life differently than I think most Christians do. Eternal life, for me, is exactly what it says it is. Eternal existence. A never-ceasing and infinite array of experiences and opportunities.
Limitless liberty. Unrestricted glory. Perfect Love. Eternal life isn't just about bliss or paradise or just standing in God's presence with loved ones and lost friends. That's part of it.
For me, eternal life is about work, overcoming challenges, playing games, rest, and relationship forming in a truly infinite creation with world upon world and culture upon culture to engage with.
It is about experiencing all the forms and intensity of God's love and glory through an eternal timeframe. It's about experiencing just raw, endless experience. Experience after experience. Endless existence and occasional reprieve from the challenges and struggle.
Yes, in eternal life, I believe there is struggle. I believe there is hard work and challenge, but you are never without God's presence or His grace. It never leaves. That separates eternal life from hell. In hell, God is nowhere to be found.
You can be on any planet in any galaxy in any universe and you would never be without God's grace, love, and presence.
Eternal life, to me, is being fully and entirely immersed in the endless experiences, opportunities, and glory of God's infinite and eternal creation and being in full and total communion and relationship with the Creator Himself no matter where in creation you are, what battles you are fighting, what games you are playing, or what work you are doing.
He's always there. Occasionally you could even sit in His throne room with Him. But most of all, you get to bear witness to His infinite wonders and infinite glory.
