A System of Systems
If you can label parts of a system, define the properties of those parts and their relationship to other parts as well as the system as a whole, and you can do this down to a foundational level, then you have a thorough understanding of that system to a degree where you can manipulate it and even control it.
Control never comes without understanding. You can't control something you don't understand.
All existence is is one massive system. From my view an infinitely complex and infinitely expansive system. It is a giant, unfathomably complex system of systems. It contains systems within systems, and systems within the systems within systems.
It contains both abstract and concrete systems. Physical systems that enable the reality as we know it, as well as abstract, non-physical systems that operate in the mind or in social groups. Conceptual systems also exist, like the concept of infinite complexity.
Our bodies are systems. Arrangements of matter, fluids, cells, and energy that give us our ability to operate in a physical universe.
The further down the rabbit hole of complexity you can go down or comprehend and process accurately, the more power and influence you have over that system.
Of course, if existence is infinitely complex, than that rabbit hole is bottomless. You can get lost down there.
Since all of reality is just a system of systems, if you want to improve a system, you have to have a decent level of understanding of that system to make the changes necessary to improve it. If you want to get creative, than you can design new and innovative systems that can revolutionize certain elements of the human condition. If you can do this, chances are you won't need to worry about starving anytime soon.
The truth is all physical systems will eventually die and collapse because of entropy. Entropy is why you frequently have to buy a new car or a new computer. It's the primary reason why our bodies die. Entropy affects systems as large as nations or planets. Eventually entropy will collapse all physical systems.
Only abstract systems based on meaning and concept do not die. The abstract realm is not bound by entropy. It is a timeless place. As a result, only abstract systems don't collapse.
In an infinitely complex system like an infinite existence, you would have systems within systems within systems and so on. A neverending system of systems. With scale infinity, you can break down those systems into the infinitely small and build up into the infinitely large. This complexity is pretty unfathomable to humanity, but it is a level of complexity I believe actually exists.
