Equilibriums, Entropy, and the Stability of Games

Game scenarios rarely stay stable for long. In fact, instability and imbalance is often what drives the procedures and progression of many games. Games themselves are scenarios that attempt to create a balance or "equilibrium" out of competitive system in discord or disorder.

Equilibriums happen in certain game scenarios when competitors or cooperators reach a point in the progression of the game where they become satisfied with the current state of affairs of the game and their current positions within the competition or interaction in regards where they want to be and end up as the game progresses while taking into account the positions and strategies of their fellow players.

The great problems equilibriums face is that they always break down over time. Some may last a while, yes, but entropy breaks down all systems, and equilibriums in certain circumstances are precarious and fragile already, especially those dealing with contentious territory or resource disputes between groups of human beings.

Entropy is the natural decay and breakdown of complex systems. As a result, equilibriums in a physical world with physical components cannot be sustained indefinitely, and require constant repairing and adjusting to be sustained for a long period of time.

There are many types of games and game scenarios. As a result, equilibrium is achieved by a different procedure and a different method for different types of games. Some games, however, equilibrium between competitors is not so much the objective. In these games, victory and the eliminating of an opponent is the objective, rendering the pursuit of an equilibrium irrelevant and unnecessary.

Equilibriums often are, and often need to be pursued, when competitors in a game scenario cannot be outright eliminated from the game or destroyed. Their presence is guaranteed and they are guaranteed to have a piece of the pie no matter the outcome.

In these situations, a stable equilibrium is absolutely necessary for the stability of the system. I would argue that equilibriums in these games will form naturally and the "tug-of-war" between the players will balance the system eventually until the system is thrown out of balance again by entropy.

Have a good day friends!
