The Unpredictability of the Creator
I've noticed from my study of scripture and from my own relationship with God that God does almost everything He does for two primary things; love and glory. Love is often the aspect of God's nature that believers focus on the most, and it is demonstrated to the greatest extent by the sacrifice of Jesus to pay for the sins of humanity.
Glory is not disregarded by any means in an evaluation of God's nature. Not by a long shot. A prime example of glory is the Resurrection of Christ and His conquest of death, one of the most important demonstration of God's glory in the history of his creation.
Now I believe God created an existence that is truly infinite. A reality more complex and wondrous then anything most human beings can imagine. Of course, in order to do such a thing, He Himself has to be infinite in every respect.
In his infiniteness, I believe he created existence as a platform for his glory to be demonstrated and actualized to the fullest extent. I believe He has an adventurous streak to him.
I believe their is a significant reason why conflict is so hardwired into His creation. Conflict is a catalyst for maximal glory. Even humans experience a form of glory when they overcome an obstacle, defeat an enemy, and taste victory.
I once heard a philosophical question, a rather simple one, that said" If God was all powerful, could He create a rock he couldn't lift?" Of course He could. He Created an infinite existence. The question is whether He would. The only reason he would do such a thing is to challenge Himself. He would do it so He could learn how to lift it. Of course, to an infinite mind, such a logical trap is quite simplistic and irrelevant. Only a human in all its arrogance and and lack of imagination would ask such a question.
Just like God tests His followers, He challenges himself. An infinite mind can create whatever enigma, game, or tribulation it wants to and can make the challenge as difficult as it wants it to be. In surmounting the insurmountable, achieving the impossible, overcoming the hardest pinnacle, and conquering the unconquerable, the Creator maximizes glory to the extent that humans couldn't comprehend or imagine.
In His infiniteness, His tests can get as complex as He wants. The Creator's method of operating is highly unpredictable and quite confusing. Naturally so, because if His enemies can predict Him, they have a better chance of defeating Him. As a result, complex unpredictability is the strategy of the creator in His conflicts, games, and challenges within His infinite creation. He never gives away His true strategy, but there is a method to His "madness."
The phrase "the Lord works in mysterious ways" is a good summary of this strategy.
Since God's mind is infinite, and His potency is limitless, He never loses outright. However, He is a master of disguise and will make Himself look weaker and maybe even lose a few battles here and there, but He will never lose the war. This is, of course, to maximize His glory. I've learned that there is very little glory in cakewalks. Glory doesn't come from easy circumstances.
In his method of operating, His unpredictability and confusing actions make Him exceedingly difficult to understand. However, He doesn't ask to be understood. He asks for His followers to trust Him. Above all, He asks for obedience.
There is a purpose for everything He does.
Much of His actions and His purposes are to test His subjects, teach His followers important lessons about Himself and existence, and to prove His enemies and adversaries wrong up to the point of their very destruction.
He does all this for the most beautiful concepts in all of existence; Love...and Glory
