The kids played in the street, the boys kicking balls around or fighting with sticks like they were swords and exercising their vibrant imaginations with the antics of the heroes of old. It's been decades since a hero was last seen, or even needed, and the nation was at relative peace.

There was a young boy born into this tiny village. The boy's mother labored for hours and hours giving birth to him, and she succumbed to the pains and strains of childbirth and died not so long after. She knew that she would not be strong enough to survive the birth of her only son. In her first and last gift to the boy before she died, she wanted to give her son a name that would be strong and a name that would give the boy courage as he grew to face the challenges of his life. She named the boy Valor, hoping that the boy would be blessed by a name that means great courage and that he would live up to his namesake. 

       Valor was a small child. Small, but bold, a scrawny boy, but courage came easy to him. Unfortunately, his size still limited his success. Whenever he got into a fight, he usually lost. Because of this, he began to become resentful and bitter. 

      He was never adequate in his own eyes. He never measured up to his own standards. He always wanted to be bigger, stronger, and faster. He always wanted to be a mighty warrior when he grew up. As he got older, he remained relatively small and physically weak. 

        As Valor became a man, the desire to be a warrior remained strong, but the Army of his city never wanted him because he just didn't meet the standard they were looking for. Valor was just too damn small. This rejection devastated him. It broke his hope, and shattered his outlook on life. He feared a life of mediocrity. A life of unfulfillment. A life of disappointment. This hearbreak, he feared, would be with him to his grave. 

           About the same time of Valor's rejection, Ares was completing a bloody campaign in a distant realm of existence. His henchmen were getting their hands dirty. Deimos had infected the minds of a beautiful city of marble and gold with a horrific and mind-crippling terror, while Phobos was routing the city's army from the green fields of the city's agricultural grounds and into the mountains. 

Deimos and Phobos betray Ares, bind him to his chariot, and leave
