Survival Necessity

I wrote a philosophy paper 4 years ago in one of my classes about extraterrestrial intelligence and how we would relate to it. I argued that if an alien organism could get advanced enough to cross the vastness of interstellar space, it would have to survive its own species. As a result, it would be highly morally and ethically advanced, valuing the lives of members of its species regardless of belief or physical differences.

In order for humanity to reach somewhere else in this universe, we also would have to reach that same survival necessity. Unfortunately that's not looking super promising. Humanity has too much hate and too much confusion.

We prey on each other over silly differences such as what color someone's skin is. We massacre people over just having different beliefs about reality. Most people can't see past the vain, simplistic traits of someone such as what they look like and how they talk.

Intelligent children are brutalized because of jealousy by their peers for just having a better understanding of things, having interests in higher forms of thought other then just sex or drugs or other vanities. People of faith get persecuted and treated poorly for trusting in a higher authority.

We are an unforgiving species. We mark people for life sometimes for certain mistakes, and once many detrimental labels/curses are placed on a person, they can be incredibly difficult to shake off. This can make many people unable to rise to their full potential.

We still practice slavery across the world, with human trafficking enlaving millions of people for sex and forced labor. Our governments find every excuse to strip liberty and oppress. Powerful people lie, scheme, and plot, sometimes doing terrible things and immense damage to who they view to be lesser people all for the simplistic and petty shallowness of increasing their wealth and power. What a shame, since what use is wealth if your practices destroy your society and world.

The weak are preyed upon by people who mistakenly equate strength with brutality. We fight war after war after war, decade after decade after decade, and it pushes us closer to the precipice of our self destruction.

Humanity only learns the hard way when it comes to things like unity and surviving ourselves, which is why I have little faith that our species can survive itself and unite to reach elsewhere in existence without the help of some outside force, like an alien race more morally, ethically, socially, and culturally advanced than our species, or the intercession of God himself.

I hope our species has an intercession. I would love to see mankind survive its destructive tendencies and rise to its full potential, instead of continuing down the path of maltreatment, oppression, and slavery.

We are only as strong as the least of us, and strengthening the weak and learning to heal the sick makes us far more morally, ethically, and even technologically advanced. Far more advanced, I must say, than oppressive societies who subjugate the poor and cast out and kill sickness and weakness

Have a good day friends!
