What makes a human being interested in, or fascinated by, certain subjects or ideas?

This is a question I have asked myself while I was studying psychology and dabbling into philosophy. I am a firm believer that interests and fascinations are innate in someone's nature, and they become readily apparent at a fairly early age in most humans.

Even so, I also know that interests and fascinations change over time, but things you once loved to read about and study and partake in don't ever completely go away. I believe it is both a biological and spiritual phenomenon with what humans are interested in and fascinated by.

There is an element of conditioning or "nurture" involved, but this usually happens to people and children after an initial interest in a field or activity is already shown by the individual. Some could even make the argument that there are predetermined natures in humans, an almost biological or neurological drive towards certain subjects or activities.

What we read about and the information we ingest through our senses programs our brains and minds. Like a computer being programmed by code and software, our minds become shaped and honed and structured by the information we ingest through our education, entertainment and media consumption, and just our general day to day lives.

The information, like ideas and ideologies as well as cultural elements of our lives, cause us to form worldviews and mental constructs of reality. We often bounce external elements of reality off of said worldviews, and we accept or reject ideas foreign to or compatible with our constructs of reality or worldviews, all depending on how compatible or incompatible they are.

Back to interests and determined nature. I, personally, have always had a fascination with war and politics. This fascination is not super atypical. Many people have it. This fascination has programmed and constructed my mental reality in a way where I now look at the broader reality, as well as one of reality's major purposes, as being something akin to a war game.

I also am immensely fascinated with things like espionage and intelligence gathering (CIA stuff), but not necessarily for the same strategic purposes as your average intrigued individual interested in the field. Since I believe that complex ideas like ideologies and belief systems have a certain degree of agency or will when they interact with the human mind, I wanted to find a way to use ideologies and belief systems to instill an  inherent value of human life in populations that are destructive and some downright murderous.

I believe in the power of information. I believe in the power of ideas, and I think it is possible to use information and ideas to alter the behavior and thinking of a targeted group to make the group less destructive and, hopefully, prevent mass conflict and death.
