Psychological Warfare

What a fascinating topic! Something that a lot of people don't understand is the nature of this form of warfare. Psychological Warfare is the strategy of using words, ideas, images, and information, to infiltrate, attack, and conquer someone's mind. A friend of mine once said there are five types of warfare. When he listed them, psychological warfare was not one of them. I think it should be. It is an incredibly potent form of conflict. Hell even kids engage in it when they bully each other, degrading and dehumanizing their targets, sometimes with the intent to get their target to harm themselves. As a christian, I believe there is a strong connection between psychological warfare and the spiritual warfare that is raised all around us between God and his spiritual enemies. Also, both types of conflict occur in the mind. In the Armed Forces, we call this PSYOPS, or hearts and minds, where we try to win popular support for our missions and operations against radical islam and other forms of terrorism.

Some people strive to turn their mind into a fortress—a Stoic "inner citadel," an impenetrable bastion of psychological and spiritual security that no danger or enemy can conquer or destroy. It’s a noble and intriguing endeavor, turning your mind into a fortress. But for myself? I would forgo the citadel and instead transform my mind into a bottomless ocean.
